ALBANY – Kane Smith, age 61, Albany, died Tuesday night at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, following an illness. Born in Portland on December 18, 1954, he was a lifelong resident of Delaware County and a 1974 graduate of Albany High School. Kane was a semi truck driver for thirty years and was awarded for driving 2.3 million miles accident-free. He mowed for numerous clients in the Albany area and worked on the family farm in Niles Township. Kane attended Union Chapel Ministries and belonged to the Eagles Lodge and Antique Motor Club. He never knew a stranger and enjoyed sports, boating at the lakes, and fishing.
Survivors include his parents: Wm. Harold & Peggy (Friend) Smith, Dunkirk; a daughter: Lindsey Smith, Selma; two brothers: Kent Smith, Dunkirk, and Kevin Smith (wife: Beth) North Webster; two sisters: Kimberly Sherman, Dunkirk, and Karen Rees (husband: Mark), Dunkirk; a granddaughter: Lily Smith, Dunkirk, and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Union Chapel Ministries, Muncie. Burial will follow at Black Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4 until 6 p.m. at Union Chapel Ministries and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
