COVID-19

On March 3, 2022, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb ended the State of Emergency Declaration related to COVID-19.  It marked the long anticipated and official public conclusion to one of the most difficult and challenging times in the history of the Hoosier state.

If you incurred funeral related expenses resulting from a loss due to COVID-19 (either directly or indirectly), you may be eligible for financial assistance from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency). As of now, there is no deadline to apply for this federal assistance.

  • The death must have occurred after January 20, 2020
  • The death certificate must show COVID-19 as an immediate or contributing cause of death
  • The funeral expenses must not have already been paid prior to the death (i.e., an existing pre-paid funeral trust may be a disqualification for assistance)

To find out if you qualify and begin the application process, call the COVID-19 Funeral Assistance Helpline at 1-844-684-6333.

While there is no deadline to apply for assistance, beginning in April of 2022, FEMA will begin placing applications that remain incomplete after one year in a suspended status.
