William (Bill) Hamilton Obituary

William E. “Bill” Hamilton, age 82, Dunkirk, died Sunday morning at home following a brief illness.  Bill was born at home in Dunkirk on March 19, 1939.  He lived there for several years and had also lived near Albany.  He joined the Indiana National Guard and was a machine operator at Indiana Glass Co., Dunkirk, for over 30 years before retiring.  Bill was a member of Local 501 and had served on the Frank Merry Park board.  He was a member of Dunkirk Church of The Nazarene where he was a longtime greeter and former board member.  Over the years he was involved with Angel Food Ministries (food pantry) and enjoyed fishing, playing mens softball, horseshoes, bowling, playing cards, singing, and watching westerns.  Bill also adored his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include 3 sons: Steven L. Hamilton (wife: Joyce), Albany, Michael W. Hamilton (wife: Donna), Dunkirk, and Kevin M. Hamilton (wife: Gloria), Dunkirk; his daughter: Michele Dotson (husband: Gregg), Dunkirk; brother: David L. Hamilton (wife: Sue), Ladysmith, WI; sister: Alice M. Weaver, Portland; several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and several nieces & nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Nancy R. (Adams) Hamilton; son: Terry A. Hamilton; parents: Woodrow & Crystal (Kaufman) Hamilton; 5 brothers: Ivan Hamilton, John Hamilton, Rick Hamilton, Gordon Hamilton, and Ron Hamilton.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2021 at Dunkirk Church of The Nazarene.  Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Dunkirk.

Visiting hours are Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the church as well as one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

The family would like to thank Bill’s son-in-law, Gregg, for taking extra special care of Bill during the last several years of his life.
