Wayne F. Burkholder, age 80, died Monday October 24, 2022 at his son’s home in Albany. Born in Wheatfield, Indiana on November 4, 1941, he grew up in northwest Indiana and lived in Cedar Lake, Indiana and The Villages, Florida before moving to Delaware County in 2019. Wayne graduated from Hammond Technical High School in 1958 and was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked in the electrical department at F.S.C. Paper in Alsip, Illinois for several years, retiring as the maintenance manager. He was a member of Griffith Lodge No. 735, F. & A.M., and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. Wayne collected miniature cars, was an avid golfer, and cherished his family & grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 51 years, Sandra K. (Gargano) Burkholder; sons: Gary Burkholder and Eric Burkholder (wife: Mary); daughter: Janet Gordon; step-sons: Chuck Sternberg (Ken) and James Sternberg (wife: Rachel); 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and step-sisters: Deborah Doppler and Patty Johnson.
He is preceded in death by his father: Benjamin F. Burkholder, mother: Beulah Fern Wyatt, grandson: Billy Wayne Gordon, brothers: William Burkholder, Jack Burkholder, Jay Burkholder, and Theodore Burkholder, sister: Mary Malicina, and step-son: Tom Sternberg.
In keeping with Wayne’s wishes, cremation will take place with burial at a later date in Crown Point, Indiana.
