Vergene M. Bishop

Vergene Mae (Bartlett) Bishop, age 83, Albany, died unexpectedly on Saturday January 7, 2023 at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne.  Born in Delaware County on April 2, 1939, she graduated from DeSoto High School in 1957 and was an Albany resident for most of her life.  Vergene was a homemaker and worked in the office of her husband’s business – HDRK Co., Inc. in Albany from 1976 until 2016.  She was a member of Albany Christian Church, DeSoto Alumni, and was a past president of Delta Theta Tau sorority.  Vergene enjoyed working in the yard and in her flower garden, going to the lake cottage, sitting in the swing, going on pontoon rides and spending any free time with her family and grandchildren; they were her pride and joy.  In earlier years she liked to sew.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Harold R. Bishop; daughters: Krista Taflinger (husband: Grant), Albany, and Lorrie Walker (husband: Rick), Ossian; brothers: Charles Bartlett (wife: Judy), Noblesville, Robert Bartlett (wife: Alice), Ridgeville, and Fred Bartlett (wife: Diane), Redkey; grandchildren: Evan Taflinger (Ashton), Daydn Taflinger, Chase Walker, Cole Walker (Rachel), Garret Walker (Faith), and Hope Walker; twin great-grandchildren: Bentley & Brody Taflinger; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Zale & B. Louise (Baldwin) Bartlett, and sisters: Martha Ann Wilson and (infant) Judy Kay Bartlett.

Visiting hours will be held from 1 until 3 p.m. on Friday January 13, 2023 at Meacham Funeral Service.  Burial will follow at Strong Cemetery.
