Steve Myers, 72, Albany, went home to Heaven on Tuesday November 30, 2021 at his home in Albany. Steve was born in Portland to Russell & Catherine (Carey) Myers on October 16, 1949. He graduated from Redkey High School and received an Honors Student Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in 1999 (Steve said he crammed his 4 year degree into 32 years). He married the LOVE of his life, Marlena (Perry) Myers, in 2002. He was co-founder of Pak-A-Sak convenience stores and managed the business for over 25 years. He also developed Golfbrook Estates and other businesses in Portland where he lived for 30 years; he continued business consulting after retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served as a White House staff member for nearly 4 years under President Nixon where he received many awards and citations. He faithfully attended Fellowship Baptist Church for many years.
Steve loved his family and referred to them as his “wonderful legacy”. He is survived by his loving wife, Marlena (Perry) Myers, who he thanked every day for making him so happy; son: Brian Myers (Joni); daughters: Denise Swingley (Steve), Leslie Peterson (Michael), Jodi Swingley (Stacy), Larissa Robbins (Derek Weaver), Kristina Besser, and Briana Smith (Aaron); 22 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; sisters: Beverly Inman (Roger) and Charlene Morris; sisters-in-law: Bev Cleveland (Hal), Sandy Robbins, and Patty King; brothers-in-law: Glen Colpaert and Kevin Perry (Jane).
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, sister: Karen Colpaert (Glen), and brother-in-law: Robert Morris.
Steve loved God and was so thankful for the gift of salvation. He lived a full life and had many activities: visited all 50 states, antique clock collector, registered clock maker, computer systems engineer, home design and renovation, farming, and was a very accomplished cook. He and Marlena loved to grow flowers, especially petunias. Steve as a huge fan of the Indiana Hoosiers and always “suited up” for their games. Unfortunately, he often said…”Next year for sure!”
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Meacham Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Strong Cemetery with military rites provided by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard. Steve’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Visiting hours are Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Youth of Fellowship Baptist Church, Portland.
