Rebecca Kirby, age 72, Albany, died Sunday July 24, 2022 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness. Born in Sullivan, Indiana on March 4, 1950, she graduated from Oakland City (IN) High School (now Wood Memorial High School) and Ball State University where she received a Masters degree in Education. Rebecca taught high school Mathematics for the Madison Grant United School Corporation for 28 years then was a librarian for 10 additional years. She retired in 2013. Rebecca was a member of Albany United Methodist Church and board member/volunteer at the Albany Community Library. She loved traveling, books/reading, and water aerobics at the Y.W.C.A. in Muncie. She organized and participated in retired teacher luncheons and loved to share photos of and to brag about her grandchildren.
Survivors include her son: Jason Kirby (wife: Elizabeth), Kenosha, WI; sister: Sarah Boger (husband: Arnold), Petersburg, and four grandchildren: Ian Ray, Alison Marie, James Russell, and Ella Grace.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Kirby, who died in 1993; her daughter: Shannon Kirby in 1992, and parents: Abraham & Helen (Stewart) Mercer.
Visiting hours are Thursday July 28, 2022 from 5 until 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday at Meacham Funeral Service.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2022 at Meacham Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Strong Cemetery.
