Mellainee Naomi Glaze

Mellainee Naomi Glaze, age 79, Muncie, died Saturday November 20, 2021 at Golden Living Center following an extended illness.  Born in Muncie January 12, 1942, she lived several years in Delaware County and Indianapolis before moving back to Muncie.  She was a 1960 graduate of Selma High School; on the day before graduating she began a career with the telephone company that lasted 32 years.  Hired by Indiana Bell as an operator in the traffic department, she worked her way through many positions within the company including supervisory positions in Indianapolis and Muncie.  In 1977 she became the first female supervisor in her Muncie district and continued to make advancements until retiring in 1991 as Manager Distribution Services.  She went on to work as a receptionist at Oliver Dorton Insurance for 15 years.

She was a member/officer of Hoosier Connection Chapter of ABWA in Indianapolis where she was selected Woman of The Year in 1983.  She was also a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and a member/officer of RFD Extension Homemakers Club of Delaware County.  She attended Christ United Methodist Church in Selma where she served on the funeral and shower committees and was a former member/officer of Delta Sigma Sorority. 

Her favorite pastime was attending all possible activities involving her “six kids” and their families.  She enjoyed being a part of spring break trips to Gulf Shores and summer vacations all over the U.S. – traveling along with the family in her Minnie Winnie motorhome.  She also loved weekend trips to state parks around Indiana, especially Mounds, along with trips to Brown County at the ‘Aljoron camp site.

Melaine was the aunt of Randale Glaze (wife: Cindy), Marla Cook (husband: Chris), JoDee Holdcroft, Ryan Glaze (wife: Anita), and Paul Holdcroft.  She was great-aunt to Bronson Curtis (wife: Kori-Ann), Breque Norris (husband: Rick), Brogan Curtis (wife: Shelby), Baxter Holdcroft (wife: Liz), Baylea Thompson (husband: Rhett), Levi Holdcroft (wife: Savannah), Jensen Glaze, Breea Holdcroft, Jaigen Glaze, Gavin Glaze, Sarah Holdcroft, Gabriel Glaze, and Garrett Glaze.  There are also 9 great-great nieces & nephews that survive.

She is predeceased by her parents: Marlin & Jeanette (Frazee) Glaze; brother: JoDohn Glaze; sister: Norelia Holdcroft and her husband, Richard, and a nephew: Edward Holdcroft.

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Meacham Funeral Service.  Burial will follow at Black Cemetery.

Visiting hours are Saturday from 1 until 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be sent to Christ United Methodist Church in Selma.
