Kent Smith, age 69, of rural Delaware County, died June 1, 2021 at Wildwood Healthcare Center, Indianapolis, following an extended illness. Born in Muncie October 10, 1951, he graduated from Dunkirk High School and attended Vincennes University and Indiana University. Kent was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 20 years before retiring in 2011. He was a talented musician who played keyboard in working bands. Kent never met a stranger; he attended church, knew the scripture, and enjoyed distributing Bibles.
Survivors include his mother: Peggy Smith; son: Jason B. Smith (wife: Mary Ann); daughters: Joanna L. Smith, Jama L. Smith, and Jennifer J. Smith; brother: Kevin Smith (wife: Beth); sisters: Kimberly Sherman and Karen Rees (husband: Mark), Dunkirk; 8 grandchildren, and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his daughter: Janeen Marie Smith; father: Wm. Harold Smith, and brother: Kane Smith.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Meacham Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Black Cemetery with military rites by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Visiting hours are Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
