Former Dunkirk resident Jimmy Springer, age 71, Hagerstown, died unexpectedly Sunday, December 26, 2021 at home. Born on September 1, 1950, he grew up in Albany and lived in Illinois, Indiana, and Florida before moving back to Dunkirk in 1994. Jimmy graduated from Albany High School in 1969 and attended Lakeland College in Illinois. He was a truck driver for Landstar Trucking and owned & operated Springer Transportation in Dunkirk for over 10 years. In earlier years he owned a printing business in Dunkirk and Sanford, Florida. Jimmy was a member of Saint Lawrence Catholic Church, Muncie, and Saint Mary Catholic Church, Dunkirk. He was a 30-year liver transplant survivor and former Dunkirk Elks member who enjoyed the railroad and riding motorcycles. Jimmy loved to talk with people and never met a stranger.
Survivors include his life partner: Anne Robertson; 4 sons: Bobby Springer, Dunkirk, Joey Springer, Dunkirk, Chris Robertson (wife: Whitney), Greens Fork, and Jeff Robertson (wife: Stephanie), Hagerstown; 3 daughters: Jana Fisher (Brian Zegarski), Troy, MO, Dana Kwarteng (husband: Ken), Lynn Haven, FL, and Shannon Springer (Kamron Bentz), Portland; 2 sisters: Martha Spade (husband: Larry), Dunkirk, and Brenda Whitesell (husband: Mike), Dunkirk; 13 grandchildren and nieces & nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Charles H. & Helen L. (Dailey) Springer.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 31, 2021 at Saint Lawrence Catholic Church, Muncie. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Visitation is Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany.
