Jerry L. McConnell

Jerry L. McConnell, age 86, Albany, died Wednesday February 3, 2021 at home following an extended illness.  Born in Albany Oct. 28, 1934, he was a lifelong area resident and a 1953 graduate of Albany High School.  He worked at GM Delco Battery, Muncie, for 39 years before retiring.  Jerry was a 50+ year member of Anthony Lodge No. 171, F. & A.M. and belonged to York Rite, Anderson.  He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and his “cross in my pocket” distribution ministry.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 65 years, Mary J. McConnell; daughter: Brenda L. Roach, Albany; sons: Jon B. McConnell, Albany, and Edward J. McConnell (wife: Rebecca), Dunkirk; brother: Paul D. “Butch” McConnell (fiancé: Donna), Largo, FL; sister: Peggy J. Bales Bullock, Melbourne, FL; 7 grandchildren: Leslie Gates (husband: Jason), Nick Roach, Andrea Lee (fiancé: Brandon Davis), Stefan McConnell (wife: Stephanie), Janalee McConnell (friend: Dee), Matthew McConnell (friend: Sidney), and Landen McConnell; 7 great-grandchildren: Emilee Gates, Taylor Gates, Aliasia, Kobe Bennett (wife: Moniquic), Hunter McConnell, Hannah McConnell, and Hugh McConnell; 1 great-great-grandchild: Deklon Bennett.

He is preceded in death by his father: Ross McConnell, and mother: Catherine (Strong) McConnell Summers; son-in-law: Paul Roach, and 2 brothers-in-law: George Bales and James Bullock.

Services will be 4 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Meacham Funeral Service.  Cremation will follow with private entombment at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Visiting hours are Saturday from 2 until 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
