Janice Gray, age 83, Albany, died Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Independence Village of Fishers South following an extended illness. Born in Canal Winchester, Ohio on June 18, 1939, she grew up in Ohio and graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in English. Janice moved to Muncie in 1964 and spent most of her life near Albany. At age 50 she received a Masters degree from Ball State University and taught there as well as Ivy Tech. As a talented pianist, she gave lessons from her home over the span of nearly 30 years. She was an active member and longtime musician at DeSoto United Methodist Church and had played the piano/organ in churches for 60 years overall. Janice was a very active 4-H leader and excelled in cake decorating, sewing, and fashion. She enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, flowers, gardening and canning, and raising sheep on the farm.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Marvin Gray, and their adult children: Karen Dowdell (husband: Dean), Indianapolis, Kim Randall (husband: Mark), Indianapolis, John Gray (wife: Amy), New Paris, and Rebecca Detling (husband: Jim), Greenville (OH); a brother: Dr. Robert Jepsen (wife: Marilyn), Canal Winchester (OH); 10 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Dr. Oscar W. & Mildred K. (Stouffer) Jepsen.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2023 at DeSoto United Methodist Church with burial following at Black Cemetery.
Visiting hours are Saturday from 1 until 2 p.m. at the church.
