Jack Long, age 80, Albany, died Sunday January 1, 2023 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following an illness. Born in Wolf River, TN on October 21, 1942, he moved to Indiana at a young age and grew up in Gaston. He attended Harrison School and was a U.S. Army veteran that served during the Vietnam War era. Jack worked at Westinghouse for several years until it’s closure in 1998. He also worked for Longs Excavating – a company that his brother, Bill, owned. Jack enjoyed cars & motorcycles and rode Goldwings in earlier years; he also liked tinkering in the garage.
Survivors include sons: Mark Long (wife: Sharon), Muncie, and Ricky Long (special friend: Marilyn Bodell), Albany; daughter: Marcie Cochran, Warsaw; sister: Frances Rathel, Gaston; grandchildren: Amber Cochran (significant other: Toby Alldaffer), Warsaw, Andrea Cochran (significant other: Anthony Marquez), CA, and Zachary Long (significant other: Cori Chapman), Muncie; great-grandchildren: Cash Wayne Cochran and Cori Lee Cochran; step-grandchildren: Kalvin Danaher (wife: Sammantha), Brittney Rooney, and Kameron Danaher (wife: Raquel); nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Tara May (St. John) Long, who died in November of 2022; father: Stanley O. Long; mother; Ival M. (Pile) Long; brothers: Bill Long and Jim Long; sister: Sue Jeffries; son-in-law: Rick Cochran, and niece: Ashley Ryan.
Cremation was chosen; a celebration of life will be held in the future with burial at Strong Cemetery.
