Felita H. Dayton, age 83, Dunkirk, died Sunday January 9, 2022 at home following an illness. Born in Bloomington August 27, 1938, she lived near Dunkirk for most of her life and was a 1956 graduate of Dunkirk High School. Felita was a homemaker and babysitter. She was a member of SPG Sorority Eta Chi Chapter (60+ year member and 48 years as treasurer). At age 46 she took up snow skiing and continued skiing to age 72. She enjoyed horse racing with her husband, swimming, playing croquet, planting & caring for flowers, barnyard basketball, traveling & trying new adventures, and taking care of her darlings (barnyard cats). She was also a fan of the Indianapolis Pacers and enjoyed spending time with family.
Survivors include her daughters: Deb Dayton, Riverside, CA, Teresa Calvert (husband: George), Dunkirk, and Shari Van Nuland (husband: Brian), Dunkirk; sister-in-law: Sheila (Dayton) Hopper (husband: Chester), Portland; grandchildren: Brandi, Holly, Dustin, and Natalie; 11 great-grandchildren; niece: Yvette Rouch, and nephew: Kevin Phillips.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ralph F. Dayton; son: Dennis Dayton; parents: Lowell & Virginia (DeBatty) Phillips, and sister: Arletta Phillips.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Meacham Funeral Service – the day Ralph & Felita would have celebrated 65 years of marriage. Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Dunkirk.
Visiting hours are Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
