Eunice Hines Obituary

Eunice Marie Hines, age 102 years, passed away peacefully at home on Monday afternoon.  Eunice was born on a small farm in Pandora, Ohio on July 31, 1919 to John and Olga Burkholder.  She graduated from Pandora High School and upon graduation attended and subsequently graduated from Fort Wayne Business College.  Upon graduation, she was first employed at Dayton Power and Light, in Dayton, Ohio.  Following her marriage to Edward Humphreys on July 28, 1940, she relocated to Albany, IN where she later was employed at Interstate Machine, Tool, and Die Company.  Eunice was a member of the Albany United Methodist Church for 75 years; she was in attendance at church just eight weeks ago.  Eunice was a member of Eastern Star for 34 years.  She was an active volunteer at church activities; she also was one of the original board members for the AUMC Resale Shop ministry.  Eunice enjoyed playing cards with family and friends; she enjoyed game days at the church.  She will be remembered for her quiet demeanor.  Over the years, she and her siblings exchanged letters filled with newspapers clippings of funny stories, events, and anecdotes.  Eunice was a wonderful cook and homemaker; she was truly a farm wife.  Above all, she possessed a strong faith and an inner strength; she was a role model as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Eunice is survived by two sons, Dr. Allyn Hines, Albany, Indiana, and Mark Andrew (Tammy) Hines of Nappanee, IN; daughter in law, Mary Ellen Humphreys of Orange City, Florida.  She is also survived by four grandchildren, William Humphreys, Charleston, SC, Candice (Adam) Tobias, Nappanee, IN, Christopher Hines (Emily Losin) of Elkhart, IN, and James Armstrong of Atlanta, GA.  Also surviving are three great-grandchildren: Andrew Tobias, Caelynn Tobias, and Henry Hines.  She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, in addition to two nephews whom she helped raise: Eddie Hines and Rev. Joe Hines.

Eunice was predeceased by an infant daughter, Laura Ann Humphreys, October 1949 and her first husband, Edward Humphreys, in November, 1949.  She married Raymond Hines on April 8, 1953, he preceded her in 2008.  Eunice was also predeceased by her eldest son, Douglas Edward Humphreys, in 2020.  Also preceding her in death in addition to her parents were five sisters and one brother: Elizabeth Conrad, Alice Heinig, Mary McWilson, Margery Cureton, Margaret Kiefer, and Howard Burkholder.
