Don Valentine, 77, Albany, died Thursday September 16, 2021 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Muncie January 20, 1944, he grew up in the Dunkirk area and was a 1962 graduate of Dunkirk High School. Don was a tool & die maker; he worked for General Motors in Muncie for 31 years before retiring in 2004. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 499 and Albany Lions Club. Don enjoyed collecting pocket watches, and in earlier years, knife making and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Tena Valentine, and their daughter: Susan Bunch (husband: Roy), Dunkirk; sister: Betty Lou Edwards (husband: Kenneth), Bloomfield; grandchildren: Ashley Hilfiker (husband: Dustine), Portland, and Alexandria Heitkamp (husband: John), Portland; step-granddaughter: Amber Lumpkin (husband: Scott), Middletown; great-grandchildren: Charlotte Sue Hilfiker, Otto Allen Hilfiker, Maria Renee Heitkamp, Ricky G. Heitkamp, and Gabriel Lee Heitkamp; step-great-grandchildren: Gavin Thomas Street, Isabella June Street, and Jasper Martin Lumpkin.
He is preceded in death by his mother: Jessie E. (Goans) Valentine; brother: Jerald Valentine, and sister: Sue Habig.
Services will be 3 p.m. Monday, September 20, 2021 at Meacham Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Strong Cemetery.
Visiting hours are Monday from 1 until 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
