Cordell Sliger, known to family and friends as Jim, Jimmy, and Toppy, died Sunday September 24, 2023 at his home near Albany, following an extended illness. He was 78.
Born in Cookeville, TN on November 17, 1944, he grew up there and graduated from Cookeville High School. Jimmy moved to Indiana for work at Indiana Glass Company, Dunkirk, where he spent over 42 years before retiring in 2007 from the Oklahoma plant. He was a former member of the Portland Moose Lodge and enjoyed ‘coon hunting, fireworks, and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Kathy Sliger; son: James Sliger (wife: Michelle), Lafayette; daughters: Lisa Merchant (husband: Shane), Decatur, and Heather Lewis (husband: Carey), Lafayette; 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Martha Bantz (husband: Steve), Roanoke, Karolynn Hicks, Albany, and Kristie Miller, Albany; nieces & nephews including Chuck Moore (wife: Dayna), Downing, CA, and special cousin: Anna Flatt, Algood, TN.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Benton M. & Willie Mae Sliger; a brother: Arnold Hutson, and a sister: Janie.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Meacham Funeral Service. Cremation will follow.
Visiting hours are Saturday from 12 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
