Cindy Mapes, Dunkirk, died Wednesday October 4, 2023 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness. Born in Buffalo, New York on March 29th, she remained the age of “26” to those who knew her best. Cindy grew up in Buffalo and lived in Florida before moving to Indiana.
She graduated from high school in Indianapolis and received an Associates degree in Nursing from Ivy Tech. As a Licensed Practical Nurse and Unit Manager, she worked at Albany Health Care & Rehabilitation Center for the past 12 years. Cindy organized and participated in Albany’s annual Alzheimer’s Walk and enjoyed sewing and crafts – particularly those with glitter or sparkles. She was loving, big-hearted, selfless, and always put others before herself.
She was a loving and devoted Nonnie to her boys: Jamie and Zane Mapes, both of Dunkirk; daughter of Barbara “GiGi” Mapes, Albany; partner of Abby Whetsel, Dunkirk, and Nonnie to Trinity Mapes, Serenity Mapes, Jackson Mapes, and Silas Weeks.
Her father: Howie “PePa” Mapes and sister: Debbie Nafzinger are deceased.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation will take place.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association.
