Former Muncie resident Carl E. Baney, age 88, died Thursday August 31, 2023 at his son’s home in Summitville. Born in Muncie on May 22, 1935, he grew up there and was a 1953 graduate of Muncie Central High School. Carl was a manager at BF Goodrich for 26 years. He also worked for Motorola and Western Auto before retiring in 1996. He was a U.S. Army veteran, member of Riverside United Methodist Church, current member of Summitville Wesleyan Bible Church, Past Master of Anthony Lodge No. 171, F. & A.M., Albany, and a longtime member of the Muncie Optimist Club. He enjoyed volunteering at Summitville Hope Center, league bowling, and in 2014 he moved to Floral City, Florida with this wife.
Survivors include a son: David C. Baney (wife: Susan), Summitville; daughter: Elizabeth A. Franklin (husband: Will), Kokomo; 4 grandchildren: David Baney, Alexis Baney, Kassandra Carter (husband: Dustin), and Andrew Baney; in addition, his first great-grandchild is expected in November of this year.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Aloyse “A.J.” Baney who died in 2020. His parents, Carl A. & Florence M. (Herbert) Baney are also deceased.
A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday September 9, 2023 at Summitville Wesleyan Bible Church.
Interment will take place at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with military rites by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Visiting hours are Saturday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church.
