Longtime Albany resident Burlin McCormick, age 79, died Thursday May 18, 2023 at IU Health Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. Besides Albany, he lived in Dunkirk before moving to Redkey a few years ago. Born November 16, 1943 in Madison, West Virginia, Burlin grew up in West Virginia and moved to Indiana in 1967 for work at Indiana Glass Co., Dunkirk. He worked there for several years before retiring. Burlin attended First Freewill Baptist Church, Dunkirk. He loved gospel music and sang gospel on his own and with quartets over the years. He also enjoyed talking with others and watching westerns on TV including Gunsmoke.
Survivors include his daughter: Jeannie McCormick, Redkey, and a brother: Roger McCormick, Albany.
His wife of 24 years, Edith Jewel (Sanders) McCormick, died in 1997. Also deceased are his parents: Charles G. & Rosie V. (Graley) McCormick; 4 brothers: Leo, Harold, James, and William McCormick; 2 sisters: Mary Pauley and Ellen Sadler.
Services will be 4 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Meacham Funeral Service. Burial will occur later at Warrick Cemetery in Lincoln County, West Virginia.
Visiting hours are Thursday from 2 until 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
