Obituary

ALBANY – Wayne Oakley, age 65, Albany, died Friday morning at home surrounded by family after an illness of three months.  Born in Muncie on May 28, 1950, he grew up in Albany and graduated from Albany High School with the class of 1968.  He learned skilled trades work and became a journeyman tool & die maker working forty-six years in various area businesses including Mursix Corp., Yorktown, where he was currently employed.  Wayne belonged to Sons of The American Legion in Albany and enjoyed any type of open-wheel racing, particularly sprint car racing.  His great enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Susie Oakley, and their sons: Mike Oakley, Albany, and Chad Oakley (wife: Sarah), Greenfield; his mother: Wanda Oakley, Albany; a brother: James Oakley, Jr. (wife: Brenda), IL; 5 grandchildren: Justin, Shelbi, Drew, Jake, and Will; 2 brothers-in-law: Steve Bishop (wife: Connie), Indianapolis, Dick Bishop (wife: Kay), Vandalia, OH, and several nieces & nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, James Oakley, Sr., and in-laws: Jack & Meriam Bishop.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Meacham Funeral Service.  Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.

Memorials may be sent to Cancer Services of East Central Indiana (Little Red Door) or IU Health Ball Memorial Hospice.
