Walter Trosper, affectionately known as Doc, died Tuesday January 6, 2026 at home following an illness. Born in Hartford City on December 27, 1946, he grew up in Blackford County and was a 1966 graduate of Montpelier High School. Doc worked at 3M in Hartford City for 45 years before retiring in 2013. He was also an auctioneer in his working years.
He was a member of the Albany United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and attended bible study. As a boy, he belonged to the Nazarene Church in Montpelier. Doc enjoyed boating at the lake, being in nature at campgrounds during both summer and winter, and traveling on many trips. Doc will be remembered as a kind, gentle, quiet man. He will be missed by many.
Survivors include his wife, Suellen Trosper, whom he married in 2006; daughter: Deborah Trosper Thompson (husband: James), Warren; step-daughters: Angela Selvey (husband: Chris), Muncie; Tammy Zehner (husband: Ryan), Warren; and brother: Jack Trosper (wife: Barbara), Warren; 2 grandsons, 3 step-grandsons, and several nieces & nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Glen & Jane (Whitaker) Trosper.
Visiting hours are Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 1p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Albany United Methodist Church followed by the funeral ceremony at 3 p.m. Private interment will take place at Brookside Cemetery in Montpelier.
