ALBANY – Walter E. Rees, age 91, Albany, went to be with The Lord Wednesday night at home following a lengthy illness. Born in Fairview on June 10, 1923, he was the son of Ira & Lizzie Rees and attended Green Township School. He worked at McCormick Bros. and Warner Gear before a career with the United States Postal Service in Albany that lasted 37 years before retiring in the mid 1980's. Walter was a generous and compassionate man that never knew a stranger. He was a longtime member of Anthony Lodge No. 171, F. & A.M., Albany, and enjoyed watching the Reds, Hoosiers, and the Colts. He was also a family man that loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include 2 sons: Gordon Rees and Dennis Rees, Albany; 2 daughters: Carol Richards (husband: Stan) and Liz Rees, Albany; 3 grandchildren: Keylee Wright and Melissa Medinger, Indianapolis, and Renee Walters, Redkey; 4 great-grandchildren: Carter James Ayers, Jackson Ayers, Jasper Edwin Sutton, and Quinn Avery Medinger; also, several nieces & nephews and special family friend: Cathy Cunningham.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Sally A. Rees, who died in 2012; his parents; 2 grandchildren: Jeremy Wright & Melanie Hodgson; 3 brothers: Lloyd, Earl, & Marvin Rees, and an infant sister.
Services will be 4 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Meacham Funeral Service with burial following at Strong Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday from 1 until 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
