ALBANY – Virginia "Jeni" DeVoe, age 81, Albany, died Sunday night at Bethel Pointe Health & Rehabilitation, Muncie. Born in Kentucky on Jan. 11, 1932, she was the daughter of Bob & Sally Johnson. Jeni was a homemaker and had worked at Sheller Globe, Montpelier, and Gill Bros. Furniture in Albany. She was a member of the former Albany Church of The Nazarene and enjoyed square dancing, quilting, camping, and cooking.
Survivors include her son: Stephen DeVoe (wife: Vanna), Muncie; 2 brothers: John Johnson and Richard E. Johnson, both of Muncie; 4 sisters: Barb Kirkland (husband: Jim), Albany, Rosie Marie Spain, Muncie, Peggy Batio, Albany, and Judy Daniel (husband: Charley), Farmland; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, nieces, and nephews.
Her husband of 61 years, Max Devoe, died in 2012. Also deceased are her parents; 2 sons: Sid & Dan DeVoe; a grandson: Brandon Pinkston; 2 brothers: Edward & James Hall Johnson, and 2 sisters: Myrtie Blevins and Robbie Higginbotham.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, with burial following at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
