ALBANY – Velna Liggett, age 83, Albany, lost her courageous battle with Alzheimer's Sunday morning at home.  She was born in Mitchell, Indiana on November 21, 1932 and lived east of Albany for over fifty years.  Velna was a graduate of Redkey High School in 1951 and Amber's Beauty School, Muncie.  She was a self-employed beautician for thirty years and with her loving husband, Harold, owned & operated Liggett Greenhouses & Floral Shop in Albany for over forty years.  In earlier years she worked at Armstrong's in Dunkirk (now Ardagh).  Velna enjoyed crocheting, camping, growing plants, and spending winters in Key Largo, Florida.

Survivors include her children: Connie (Liggett) Geesaman, Albany, Steven V. Liggett (wife: Lynn), Albany, and Mona (Liggett) Bertram, Albany; a sister: Jody Evans (husband: Butch), Albany; 6 grandchildren: Toby Bellar, Michael Bertram, Quinn Liggett, Becca Lindley (husband: Zach), Celeste Tetrault (husband: Lucas), and Joshua Bertram (wife: Kayla); 3 great-grandchildren: Magnolia, Jacik, and Chancery; nieces, and nephews.

Her husband of nearly 59 years, Harold D. Liggett, died in January of this year; also deceased are her parents: Everett & Etta Roberts and a sister: Viola Jester.

Public graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.  Burial will follow.
