REDKEY – Former Redkey resident Troy D. Gilbert, age 47, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday morning, January 10, 2012, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a battle with cancer. Born in Muncie, he grew up in Redkey and was a 1983 graduate of Jay County High School. He worked at New Venture Gear in Muncie from 1998 until 2005 when he transferred to General Motors in Bowling Green, KY. Troy had been living in Smiths Grove, KY, since that time. He was a member of (sons of) the American Legion in Dunkirk and the Moose Lodge in Bowling Green, KY. Troy was avid Colts fan and bowler with the accomplishment of having bowled the perfect game. He also enjoyed camping, cooking out, playing cornhole, and spending time with family & friends.
He is survived by his parents: Larry and Kay Gilbert, Redkey; a brother: Tracy Gilbert, Smiths Grove, KY/Redkey; a sister: Trenda Oakley (husband: Wayne), Redkey; a granddaughter: Maddie; 2 nephews: Justin Gilbert and Chase Louck; 3 nieces: Kendra Davis (husband: Jonny), Jessica Gilbert, and Riley Gilbert; 3 great-nephews and 1 great-niece; a son: Michael; 2 daughters: Meghan and Amber; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a tremendous amount of wonderful friends.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents: John & Christine Buffalo and James Herschel & Mary Elizabeth Gilbert.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2012, at Redkey Faith Ministries, SR 67, Redkey. Burial will follow at Hill Crest Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at Redkey Faith Ministries and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
