Obituary

DESOTO – Sarah (Stafford) Arnold was born to Roy J. and Ethel M. Stafford on Jan. 2, 1914.  She died peacefully in her sleep the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at the age of 99.  Born in Delaware County, she graduated from Royerton High School in 1931 and received a B.S. in Education from Ball State University in 1964.  She was a first grade teacher at Selma Elementary School for 18 years before retiring in 1982.  She was active in the Delaware Chapel and DeSoto United Methodist Churches and a member of Liberty Perry Retired Teachers Association.  Sarah lived near DeSoto for several years before moving to Century Fields in Greentown and later to Tender Care in Goshen.

Sarah is survived by her daughters: Jane Hajny (husband: Fred) and Joyce Schramm (husband: David); six grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert S. Arnold; her parents; three brothers: George, Howard, and Robert Stafford, and two sisters: Edith Strong and Mary Robbins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at DeSoto United Methodist Church with burial following at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held from 10-1 p.m. on Monday at the church.
