ALBANY – Sara Lucinda Stone, age 68, formerly of Albany, passed away Monday August, 8, 2011 following a brief illness. A 30 plus year resident of Arlington, VA, Sara was a retired Archivist with the United States National Archives, the U.S. Department of the Interior/National Park Service, and the Alexandria Episcopal High School. A 1961graduate of Albany (IN) High School, a 1965 graduate of Indiana University and advanced studies at several colleges and universities in the fields of rare books and documents, she had previously been an employee of the Indiana University Lilly Library. Ms. Stone was the daughter of Robert Verne Stone and Mary Louise (Bell) Stone of Albany, IN.
Survivors include a sister: Elizabeth Ann (Stone) Baldwin of Centennial, Colorado; a brother: Thomas David Stone of Atlanta, GA and Albany; four nieces and nephews: Michael Haydon Miller, Albany, Anijka Bell (Stone) Clark, Livonia, MI, Kristen Elizabeth Stone Strader, Stockbridge, GA, Robert Andrew Stone, Newnan, GA, and three grand-nephews: Hayden Alexander Miller & Isaac McKendrick Miller of Albany, and Ian Robert Clark of Livonia, MI.
She is preceded in death by her parents and maternal & paternal grandparents: Wilbur & Nettie Bell and George & Gustina (Mann) Stone.
Family and friends will gather on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011 at Strong Cemetery, Albany, with burial following.
An Arlington, VA memorial service is being planned.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Strong Cemetery Association, Albany United Methodist Church (Building Fund), or the Mary L. (Bell) Stone Scholarship, c/o Albany Tri Kappa Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 143, Albany, IN 47320. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
