ALBANY – Roy Merlin Wehmeier, age 82, Albany, died Thursday September 29, 2011 at his home. Born in Westphalia, IN on October 20, 1928, he graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1946 then joined the U.S. Army where he served as a Military Policeman in Japan during the war trials. Mr. Wehmeier lived and worked most of his life on a rural Albany Angus cattle farm. He also worked at Warner Gear (Borg-Warner), Muncie, for 30 years before retiring in 1979. He was a member of American Angus Association, Eastern Indiana Livestock Breeders Association and at one time belonged to Albany Lions Club.
Survivors include a son and 3 daughters: Madeline Fuller (husband: Larry), Wellsville, KS, Marian Janney (husband: Randy), Muncie, Bill Wehmeier (wife: Celest), Albany and Chris Holt (husband: Dennis), Schwenksville, PA; a brother: Ives Wehmeier (wife: Marilyn), Sandborn, IN; a sister: Mildred Mackey, Carlisle; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson, nieces, nephews and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, M. June Wehmeier, who died earlier this year; his parents, 2 brothers: Pete & Harry Wehmeier and 3 sisters: Hazel Jackson, Ruby Dinkens and Helen Fairhurst.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany.
A private ceremony will be held for family members on Tuesday with burial following at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
