ALBANY – Former longtime Albany resident Roy A. DeHaven, age 97, passed away Saturday afternoon at Pine Knoll Rehabilitation Center, Winchester. Born in Fairview on May 18, 1914, he was the oldest living graduate of Green Township High School – class of 1932. Roy worked at Delaware Tool, Muncie, and at McCormick Bros. in Albany; he retired in 1980 from Albany Tool & Die. He also worked in television & radio repair from his home for 50 years. Roy was a member of Albany Christian Church where he was Deacon Emeritus and in charge of the sound system and tape ministry. He was also the oldest living Past Master of Anthony Lodge No. 171, F. & A.M., Albany.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Barbara J. (Feirrell) DeHaven; a son: Phil DeHaven (wife: Linda), Union City, IN 2 daughters: Jane A. Wilson (husband: Michael), West Lafayette, and Mary Trent (husband: Keith), Anderson; 7 grandchildren: Michelle (DeHaven) Kurtz, Katherine (Wilson) Jarrell (husband: Chuck), Kirby DeHaven, Lance Wilson, Carrie (Trent) Wilson (husband: Jeremy), Curtis Trent (wife: Liz), and Collin Trent (wife: Anna); also, 7 great-grandchildren: John Kurtz, Patrick Murray, Rachel Kurtz, Jessica DeHaven, Regan Erny, Natalie DeHaven, and Cate Wilson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert & Bessie DeHaven, and his grandson-in-law, Russ Kurtz.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 27, 2012, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany. Burial will take place at Strong Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home with Masonic memorial rites at 8 p.m.
