WINCHESTER – Robert N. "Bob" Thompson, age 81, Winchester, died Monday afternoon at St. Vincent Randolph Hospital. Born in New Castle on July 11, 1930, he graduated from New Lisbon High School in 1949 and studied accounting at Indiana Business College. He moved to Delaware County in the mid 1950's and worked at Delaware Machine & Tool, Muncie, for 20 years before retiring in 1999. He also worked at Marhoeffer's for 25 years and at Meijer in Muncie. Bob was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church and formerly belonged to Muncie Lions Club and Muncie Kennel Club.
Survivors include 3 daughters: Elaine Barr (husband: Duane), Winchester, Karen Estes, Waukegan, IL, and Roberta Jean Hughes (husband: Stephen), Anderson; 2 brothers: Paul Thompson (wife: Helen), Spiceland, and Ronnie Thompson (wife: Joyce), New Castle; 4 sisters: Jean Norris, FL, Marilyn Horack, New Castle, Janet Holland (husband: Mark), Versailles, and Phyllis New (husband: Mike), CA; 6 grandchildren: Brenda Forcum, Jason Good, Jancey Harty, Greg Barr, Justin Harty, and Sarah Barr; 7 great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Billie Sue Thompson; his parents: Edgar & Hazel Thompson, and a brother: Roy Thompson.
Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, with Pastors Sharon Taylor and Randy Yaryan officiating. Burial will follow at Black Cemetery with military services provided by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Visiting hours will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
