ALBANY – Robert "Razz" Lewis, age 81, Albany, died Monday September 17, 2012, at Albany Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Albany on Nov. 29, 1930, he was the son of Ralph & Orpha Marie Lewis and was a 1949 graduate of Albany High School. As a U.S. Navy veteran he served in Alaska and Japan aboard the USS Hooper Island and was a 54 year member of American Legion Post #167, Albany. He was a former member of the Albany Volunteer Fire Department and had farmed in Delaware County for many years. On his farm he enjoyed having horses. Razz retired in 1990 from Indiana Gas Co. after working there 35 years; for many of those years he was a backhoe operator.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Marie Lewis; 2 sons: Bobby Lewis (wife: Karen) and Eddie Lewis, all of Albany; a daughter: Sue Bowdell (husband: Howard), Albany; 3 sisters: Betty Gregg, Judy Davis (husband: Dave) and Barbara Lewis, all of Albany; 3 granddaughters: Jill Lewis (fiancé: Shane Harrison), Anderson, Carrie Swingley (husband: Charlie), Ridgeville and Julie Mills (husband: Bart), Albany; 4 great-granddaughters, 1 great-great-granddaughter and several nieces & nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers: Ralph, Jr., Charles "Oskie" and Dale Lewis.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday Sept. 20, 2012, at Black Cemetery with military rites provided by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
