Richard "Dick" Whitehair, 72, Albany, passed away Wednesday September 11, 2024 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.  He was the second of four children, born in Muncie to James "Jim" and Bonnie (Curtis) Whitehair on July 8, 1952.

Dick graduated from Delta High School with the class of 1970 and attended Purdue University. He married Lu Ann (Garrett) Shroyer on August 3, 1984; they were married for 40 years.  Dick was a multi-generation farmer who dedicated his life to agriculture.  Dick loved animals and cared for a variety throughout his life, ranging from dogs and cats to ducks and goats to cattle and pigs.  He also enjoyed cooking and trying out new recipes he found online that he could share with anyone who stopped by.  Very often, by watching YouTube videos, Dick would learn new techniques of farming and craftwork including woodworking – something his family enjoyed the benefit of over the years.

Dick was generous in every aspect of life and enjoyed making those around him laugh.

Dick is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lu Ann Whitehair; two stepsons: Brad Shroyer and Ryan Shroyer; grandchildren: Sophia Shroyer, Allison Shroyer, Jackson Shroyer, Madeline Stutz, and Barrett Shroyer; sister: Karen Reum (husband: Richard); brothers: Dan Whitehair (wife: Starla) and Michael Whitehair; nephews: Kenneth Reum and Kevin Reum, and nieces: Kristin Whitehair, Brittany Whitehair, Sarah Anderson, and Michele Callender.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim & Bonnie (Curtis) Whitehair, and a brother: James Edward Whitehair.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 16, 2024 at Meacham Funeral Service with burial following at Strong Cemetery.

Visiting hours are Sunday from 4 until 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
