FAIRVIEW – Richard L. "Dick" Sheller, age 74, Fairview, died Thursday evening at Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Albany on October 19, 1936, he was the son of Robert N. and Alma (Shatto) Sheller. He graduated from Albany High School and attended Hanover University and Ball State University. Dick worked for Marhoefer Meat Packing Co. for 20 years and farmed in Randolph County until retiring. He owned the Blue Lantern Tavern in Redkey during the late 1980s. Dick enjoyed being outdoors, chopping wood, and visiting with family and friends.
Survivors include a son: John Sheller, Prospect, KY; 3 daughters: Mary Sheller, Valparaiso, Sue Sheller, Albany, and Sarah Mougeotte (husband: Chris), Muncie; 2 brothers: Ervin Sheller (wife: JoAnn), Albany, and Harold E. Sheller, Albany; 2 sisters: Uarda Hines, Albany, and Martha Voigt (husband: Carroll), Indianapolis; 2 grandchildren: Laura Sheller and Mark Sheller, and several nieces & nephews.
He is preceded in death by a son: Wayne Sheller, his parents, and a brother: Robert A. Sheller.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2011, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, with burial following at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 3-7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
