DUNKIRK – Charles "Richard" Holdcroft, age 91, Muncie, died Friday night at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following an illness. Born north of Dunkirk on Jan. 18, 1922, he was the son of Russell and Blanch (Smith) Holdcroft. He graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1941 and spent most of his life farming in Jay & Blackford Counties. He enjoyed working outside caring for his land and livestock. He also cherished his family and never missed a ballgame, concert, or any activity that his children or grandchildren were a part of. Richard also enjoyed woodworking, camping, and traveling. He was one of the oldest members of Bethel United Methodist Church; he was active in the church and Sunday school – it was a place of many great and fond memories.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Norelia (Glaze) Holdcroft; his children: JoDee Holdcroft, Muncie, and Paul Holdcroft, Dunkirk; a sister: Jeanette Woodard, Dunkirk; 5 grandchildren: Levi Holdcroft, Muncie, Sarah Holdcroft, Muncie, Baxter Holdcroft, Dunkirk, Baylea Holdcroft, Muncie, and Breea Holdcroft, Dunkirk; also, several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces/nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a son: Edward Holdcroft; 2 sisters: Verna Lee Holdcroft and Jean Lephart; 2 brothers-in-law: Edwin Woodard and Floyd Lephart; 2 nieces: Joy Current and Karen Winters; and a nephew: Jamie Lephart.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Bethel United Methodist Church, Dunkirk, with burial following at Black Cemetery, Albany.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
