Richard Theodore "Scrub" Antrim, age 84, former Jay County resident, died Thursday Jan. 22, 2015, at Indiana Soldiers' Home, West Lafayette, following a lengthy illness. Born in Delaware County on June 5, 1930, he was the son of Francelle & Martha (Worl) Antrim. He grew up in Yorktown and was a 1949 graduate of Yorktown High School where he played basketball and baseball. After high school he joined the U.S. Air Force and was in active duty during the Korean War before receiving an honorable discharge. Dick worked at Delco Remy and Warner Gear, and with his wife Janellyn built & operated Country Manor Nursing Homes in Dunkirk and Hartford City (now known as Millers Merry Manor) for 14 years. An avid reader and history buff, he also enjoyed traveling extensively – particularly overseas. In later years he moved closer to Indianapolis to be near family.
Survivors include three children: Laurinda "Renny" Louks (husband: Ron), Richard Edward "Ed" Antrim, and Mary Jane Hutchison (husband: Brad), all residing near Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren: Kirby Louks, Erin Hoying (husband: Craig), Doug Louks (wife: Lisa), Abby Krout (husband: Corey), Niho Alibegovic (wife: Jenny), Richard "Graham" Hutchison (wife: Julie), Mallory Shields (husband: David), Cammie Hutchison, and Hannah & Maya Louks; 10 great-grandchildren: Kayleigh & Keaton Hoying, Declan Louks, Jane Shields, Ian Krout, Ford Hutchison, and Eldin, Ella, Enisa, & Elysse Alibegovic; a sister: Nancy Curry, Kokomo, a niece & nephew, and several cousins.
He is preceded in death by his wife of over fifty years, Janellyn (Smith) Antrim, who died in 2007.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Dunkirk with Pastor Chris Nelson. Visiting hours will be held from 1 until 2 p.m. on Saturday at the church. Military rites will be given by members of the Dunkirk American Legion.
Private burial will take place at Claycomb Cemetery in rural Jay County.
