Richard J. (Dick) Alexander, age 86, died on Monday, November 4, 2024. He was born on December 12, 1937, in Bluffton, Indiana to Lester and Edna (Reusser) Alexander. As a young man he enjoyed life on a small farm just south of town. He attended Bluffton High School and went on to graduate from Purdue University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science.
Dick moved to Muncie in 1960 where he worked as a salesman for Marhoefer Packing Company until 1978. He went on to work for Superiors Brand Meats and Century 21 Realty before becoming an agent at Farm Bureau Insurance, retiring in 2000.
Dick was a member of the Albany Lions Club for over 55 years and took pride at being their top Halloween raffle ticket salesman. He was also a member of the Dunkirk Elks #1776 and served as Exalted Ruler for two years. He attended Albany United Methodist Church, serving as head usher for many years. Dick was an avid gardener, rarely missed an Indy 500, and enjoyed raising Rhode Island Red Chickens over the course of his lifetime.
He married his wife Carolyn in 1981 who survives. In addition, he leaves his daughter Beth Henry (Shannon) of Albany, sons Ben Alexander (Dena) of Muncie, Dan Alexander (Donna) of Springville, and stepchildren, Denise Bane (Bill) of Fishers and Brent (Sherri) Pettigrew, of Indianapolis. Grandchildren include Courtney, Alexander, Katie, Abby, Natalie, Miles, Coleman, Amanda, David, and Phillip along with 14 great grandchildren. His sister Rowena Mount of Bedford also survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Dr. James L. Mount.
Private services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Albany Lions Club or the Albany United Methodist Church.
