Obituary

Rev. Mark V Garringer, age 86, Farmland, died Friday October 16, 2026 at home following an extended illness. Born in Winchester on March 25, 1940, he grew up in the Farmland area and was a part of the last graduating class of Green Township High School – the class of 1958. Mark furthered his education at Taylor University where he received a B.A. in Bible Literacy. As a Congregational Christian Pastor, Mark served in ministry for nearly 60 years, pastoring in Randolph and Delaware Counties. Along with his wife, he served with OMS International for a year in Haiti and at the Greenwood (IN) mission headquarters as Assistant Director of Field Ministries in the mid 1980s. During his final years of pastoring near Selma, Mark served as Men’s Evening Supervisor at the Muncie Mission; his work there was a ministry he cherished. As a carpenter, he played an integral role in designing, planning, and building a house in Muncie to sell to support OMS. He also designed and built four duplexes for seniors in Albany. Mark had a heart of compassion and while he enjoyed farming and mushroom hunting, his biggest joy was in taking care of people.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Linda Sue “Susie” (Swingley) Garringer; daughter: Gina Garringer, Farmland; son: Jordan Garringer (wife: Lacie), Albany; brother: Lee Garringer (wife: Joyce), Muncie; grandson: Taylor Garringer, and granddaughter: Audrey Garringer.

He is preceded in death by his son, Ralph Aaron Garringer; parents: Verlin & Nellie (Lasley) Garringer; brother: Roy Garringer; and nephews: David Garringer, Sr. and James Lee Garringer.

Visitation will be Wednesday October 21, 2026 from 3 until 6 p.m. at Meacham Funeral Service with the funeral ceremony at 6 p.m. Burial will take place on Thursday at Hopewell Cemetery with graveside services at 3 p.m.
