January 22, 1932 – August 7, 2016
ALBANY – Phil Brewer, age 84, Albany, died Sunday evening following an extended illness. Born in Fairmount on January 22, 1932, he graduated from Fairmount High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and spent the past several years as an Albany resident. Phil worked for Delco Battery for forty-two years before retiring in 1992. After retirement he farmed for Larry Shreve in Delaware County. He was a past president of Junior Achievement in Madison and Delaware County, a board member and past president of Private Industry Council of East Central Indiana, and a member of DeSoto United Methodist Church. He loved bowling and was a state senior bowling champion having won a trip to Reno, NV to participate at the national level. He also enjoyed golfing and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Louise (Smith) Brewer; two sons: Philip Brewer, Jr. (wife: Madeleine), Glendale, AZ, and Dennis L. Brewer (wife: Gwen), Anderson; two step-sons: Gregory D. Melton, Muncie, and M. David Melton (wife: Heather), Eaton; seven grandchildren: Amy, Stacey, Tammy, Steven, Zach, Logan, and Charles; four great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mark & Nettie Brewer, three brothers: Bill, Mark, and Jim Brewer, and two sisters: Patricia Uphaus and Barbara Rowe.
A Celebration of Life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2016, at DeSoto United Methodist Church with Pastor Frank Oakman and Phil's great-nephew, Brock Sizelove, officiating.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church.
