JAY COUNTY – Paul W. Smith, age 76, formerly of Bryant, died recently at Whispering Pines Rehabilitation Centre, Monticello, following an extended illness.  Born in Tipton County on December 24, 1936, he grew up in Jay County and lived near Bryant for most of his life.  He was a graduate of Poling High School and was a truck driver for forty years or more.  Paul worked for various trucking companies, retiring in the late 1980's from Stoops Express, Daleville.

Survivors include two sons: Gary D. Smith, Muncie, and Michael D. Smith, Bluffton; a daughter: Debbie Dahlstrom (husband: Steven), Albany; a step-son: Terry Cox (wife: Brenda), Portland; a sister: Anita Simons (husband: Jim), Decatur; 3 grandchildren: David May, Donna Valentine, Andy Smith, and 5 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul & Helen Smith, and a granddaughter: Christy Pittman.

Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Twin Hill Cemetery (I.O.O.F.), Pennville.
