ALBANY – Patricia J. Cross, age 77, Albany, went to Heaven Tuesday night at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a short battle with cancer. Born in Terre Haute on July 25, 1936, she was a graduate of Bryant High School, Kendall Junior College, and Ball State University where she received a B.S. in Elementary Education. Patricia lived in various locations in Indiana and had lived in Kentucky and Illinois before moving to the Albany area in the 1960's. She worked as a social worker for the State of Indiana for over 20 years before retiring. She was a member of Albany United Methodist Church and Muncie Public Library Reading Circle. In addition to reading, Pat enjoyed bird watching and spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed participating in her retirees luncheon group.
Survivors include 2 sons, 2 daughters, and their spouses – whom she considered her 8 children. They are: David A. Cross (wife: Glenda D.), Indianapolis, John W. Cross (wife: Angie), Union City, IN, Mary K. Gray (husband: Bryan), Union City, IN, and Jennifer L. Beall (husband: Anthony), Eaton; her sister: Jackie Haffner (husband: Dick), Portland; 11 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. William J. & Mary K. Carty.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Albany United Methodist Church with burial following at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4-8 p.m. at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany.
