ALBANY – Rev. Norman E. Youngblood, ThD, DD, age 84, Albany, died Tuesday Jan. 21, 2014, at Albany Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in the presence of his wife of 64 years and family. Born on Nov. 16, 1929, he was born and raised in Delaware County. At a young age he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. and in 1951 was drafted into the U.S. Army. He finished his education with theological degrees from Farmland Bible College and pastored at White Chapel Church for 22 years; he pastored at Albany Christian Church for a year before retiring in 2006. In earlier years he did mechanic work, including involvement with drag strip racing cars, and worked for Stoops Express driving a semi along with his wife from 1980-1986. He also taught at the Bible College in Farmland for several years. Norman was a member of White Chapel Church and served on the board of Oak Tree Ministries, Yorktown. He enjoyed fishing and camping, but his greatest devotion was to preaching the gospel.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Evonia Youngblood, and their children: Chris Allen Youngblood, Muncie, Monte G. Youngblood (wife: Robin), Pace, FL, and Diana Clevenger (husband: Mike), Modoc; a sister: Francis Pence (husband: Eugene), Albany; 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 2 nieces, and 3 nephews.
Norman was raised by Alpha & Gail Grove who are both deceased; he is also preceded in death by his birth parents: Claudia &Bonnie Eldora (Grove) Youngblood, a daughter: Jo Nell Goodman, a brother: Sonny Rose, and a grandson: Jeremy Todd Youngblood.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday Jan. 24, 2014, at White Chapel Congregational Christian Church, rural Albany. Burial will follow at Strong Cemetery with military rites provided by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
