DUNKIRK – Nancy J. Whitesell, age 74, Dunkirk, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Ball Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Her family was at her side. Even through numerous setbacks she never gave up. She maintained an optimistic outlook hoping for the chance to see her grandchildren grow up. They adored her.
Born in Bloomington, Indiana on June 22, 1939, she was the daughter of Manaen and Margaret (McDaniel) Vincent. Nancy graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1957 where she was prom queen of her class. She lived in Dunkirk all her life. She retired from Saint Gobain in 2000 where she worked for 39 years. Nancy never complained during this difficult time. She was gracious and more concerned about those around her and how they were doing. She always put others first. She was the essence of beauty and grace, so kind and genuine to everyone she knew. Her gorgeous blue eyes sparkled especially when talking about her family. She was amazingly loved by so many. Nancy was a consummate cook. She loved preparing large family dinners and always made it look so effortless. She also enjoyed reading. We will miss her love, a love that only a mother can give. But we know how truly blessed we were to have her.
She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Richard Whitesell, Dunkirk; 4 children: Rick Barker, Indianapolis, Mark Barker (wife: Sally), Pendleton, Julie Wuthrich (husband: John), Yorktown, and Lori Barker, Muncie; 1 brother: Claude Vincent (wife: Karen), Albany; 1 sister: Brenta Clem (husband: Richard), Indianapolis; 5 grandchildren: Nick Barker, Emily Barker, John Christian Wuthrich, Bronwyn Wuthrich, and Evan Barker.
