ALBANY – Mitchel Callow, age 73, formerly of Niles, OH, died Wednesday Nov. 27, 2013, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Niles, OH, he moved to Albany in 2011 to be near his son and grandkids. Mitch was a U.S. Army veteran and a crane operator for McDonald Steel in Ohio for several years before retiring in 2008. He also did landscape work and drove dump trucks while living in Ohio. He belonged to Croation Fraternal Union Lodge 598 and enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, NASCAR (Jeff Gordon), and watching The History Channel. Most important to him was spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his son: Michael J. Callow (wife: April), Albany; 5 grandchildren: Wyatt, Daisy, Molly, Maci, and Conner; several siblings: Carl Callow, Niles, OH, Eugene Callow (wife: Vickie), Warren, OH, Celina Braun (husband: George), Courtland, OH, Earl Callow, Warren, OH, Joe Callow (wife: Beverly), Cleveland, OH, Ceril Callow and wife, Niles, OH, Lee Callow (wife: Karen), Girard, OH, and Bob Callow (wife: Rose), Girard, OH. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Callow, and his parents.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 3-6 p.m. at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany.
Graveside services will be conducted on a later date at Niles City Cemetery, Niles, OH.
