Obituary

Maxine Walburn, age 98, died peacefully at home on Thursday, March 26, 2026. She lived in Delaware County between Eaton and Albany for most of her life. Born in Dayton, Ohio on July 17, 1927, she moved to Indiana at a young age and graduated from Saratoga High School with the class of 1945. After high school, she worked as a teller at Saratoga State Bank until her marriage to Donald E. Walburn in 1946. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed crafts, sewing and being a homemaker. She was a dedicated member of the Redkey Church of The Nazarene where she was Missions president for over 40 years. Maxine was known for her deep faith and endearing personality.

Survivors include daughters: Linda Smith (husband: Ted), Eaton; Teresa Chipps, Farmland; Barbara Monroe, Muncie; Janet Bennett (husband: Rob), Boise, ID; and Patty Fraley (husband: Gary), Redkey; sister: Reva Younger, Portland; brother: Arvin Carpenter (wife: Carolyn), Anderson; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Donald E. Walburn who died in 2015; parents: Obe and Frances Carpenter; brothers: Clyde Carpenter and Bill Carpenter, and sisters: Bea Jenkins and Pauline Lahey (her identical twin).

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Redkey Church of The Nazarene with burial following at Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Visiting hours are Thursday from 2 until 3 p.m. at the church.
