ALBANY – Margie (Hickle) Sumwalt, age 86, Albany, died Saturday March 16, 2013 at Albany Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Vanceburg, KY, she moved to Albany at a young age and was a graduate of Albany High School in 1945. She retired in 1975 from Kerr Glass, Dunkirk, and in earlier years worked at the canning factory in Redkey and Grissom's Bakery in Albany. Margie was an active member of Albany Christian Church where she belonged to Women's Fellowship and various committees over the years. She was a member of Busy Homemakers Home Ec. Club and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and spending time with her grandkids. When her sons were young she was involved in Boy Scouts.
Surviving are 2 sons: Dennie Sumwalt (wife: Jennette), Farmland, and Steve Sumwalt, Albany; 3 sisters: Jean Bellar (husband, Duane, deceased), Albany, Jackie Vandenplas (husband: Fred), Muncie, and Rita Cannon (husband: Mike), Albany; 3 grandchildren: Allen Sumwalt (fiancé: Lori Spain), Losantville, Alicia Corn (husband: B.J.), Muncie, and Sarah Sumwalt (fiancé: Nick Laskar), Farmland; 5 great-grandchildren: Willow, Rose, Zac, Jake, and Hunter; also surviving are nieces, nephews, and close friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Howard W. "Bill" Sumwalt, and her parents: Herbert and Gertrude Hickle.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday March 21, 2013, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, with burial following at Hopewell Cemetery, Farmland.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-7:30 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
