Margaret Ann (Stephenson) Reed, age 79, rural Portland, died Wednesday August 14, 2024 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.  Born in Portland on July 28, 1945, she was a 1963 graduate of Dunkirk High School.  Margaret earned a B.S. degree from Olivet Nazarene University in 1967 and attended the universities of Ball State and Indiana Wesleyan.  She was a school teacher, first at Pennville High School from 1970-1971 before spending 9 years at Blackford High School and 13 years between Hartford City & Montpelier Middle Schools.  She retired in 2009.

Margaret was a lifelong active member of Dunkirk Church of The Nazarene and belonged to American Federation of Teachers as well as Indiana Business Education Association.  She grew up on the farm in Dunkirk and lived in Millgrove for 40 years before moving near Portland in 2010.  She enjoyed reading, cooking/baking, gardening, yard work, and traveling.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Gail V. Reed, and their sons: Denny Reed (wife: Andria), Portland, and Ryan Reed (wife: Jody), Elizabethtown, PA; brothers: Phillip J. Stephenson, Muncie, and Jim Stephenson (wife: Donna), Dunkirk; sisters: Kathy L. Trimble (husband: Tim), Dunkirk, and Cheryl E. Sulfridge (husband: Kerry), Albany; 4 grandchildren: Issac, Jocelynn, Gavin, and Gage; several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Earl & Ruth Stephenson; brother: Don Stephenson, Jr., and sister-in-law: Pat Stephenson.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Dunkirk Nazarene Church.  Interment will take place at Gardens of Memory Cemetery on Monday.

Visiting hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church.
