DUNKIRK – Mabel McCowan, former longtime Dunkirk resident, died unexpectedly on Sunday Dec. 13, 2015, at her home in Scottsdale, Arizona.  Born in Monterey, Tennessee, she grew up there and moved to this area in 1949.  She retired from Indiana Glass Co. in Dunkirk, and with her husband, owned & operated Ernie's Furniture for several years.  She moved to Albany in 2005, and after numerous trips to Arizona, moved there in 2014.  Mabel was an avid gardener who enjoyed sewing and laughing.

She will be sorely missed by her family that includes a daughter: Linda McCowan, Scottsdale, AZ; 2 sisters: Delsie Buckner, Dunkirk, and Opal Phillips, Monterey, TN; a brother-in-law: Beecher McCowan (wife: Sharon), Redkey; a granddaughter: Cindy Allen (husband: Brian), Scottsdale, AZ; 2 great-granddaughters: Tasha Cerimeli (husband: Tyler), Gilbert, AZ, and Kira Padfield (husband: Aaron), Anchorage, AK; a great-great-grandson: Caleb Cerimeli, Gilbert, AZ; nieces, and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Ernest D. McCowan, who died in 2004.  Her parents: Thurman & Ollie Beaty, 2 brothers: Dewey & John Beaty, and 2 sisters: Elsie Lea and Edith Storie are also deceased.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, with private burial at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Dunkirk.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 12 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
