ALBANY – Lorene A. Wise, age 95, Albany, died Thursday afternoon at Albany Health Care where she resided nearly seven years. Born in Palestine, TX on June 10, 1914, her parents were Alonzo & Maggie Gannon. She attended school in Oklahoma and moved to Albany in 1940 from St. Louis, MO. Lorene retired from Kerr Glass (now Saint Gobain), Dunkirk, in 1974 after working there 22 years. She was a former attendee of Albany Christian Church and at one time was a member of Rebekah Lodge, Albany, and Moose Lodge, Dunkirk. She was a member of the AFL-CIO glass workers union.
Survivors include a son: Robert Ruhl (wife: Glenda), Redkey; 2 daughters: Geraldine Gegenheimer, Albany, and Charlotte Bell (husband: Jack), Dunkirk; a step-daughter: Helen Brown (husband: Hanson), Hartford City; a brother: Leo Gannon (wife: Rowena), Rossville, KS; 15 grandchildren, several step grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, several step great-grandchildren, 27 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd N. Wise, who died in 1969; also deceased are her parents, 5 sisters, and 8 brothers including Floyd "Gus" Gannon who resided in Albany.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday February 1, 2010, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
