ALBANY – Lindal Ivan Marsh, age 89, Albany, died Saturday night at Albany Health Care & Rehabilitation Center from natural causes. Born in Farmland on March 2, 1925, he attended Muncie Central High School until Pear Harbor was bombed, at which point he joined the U.S. Navy. Mr. Marsh served during WWII and the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a Boatswain's Mate First Class. By occupation he was a Tech. Sgt. for the Muncie Police Department, working 20 years until retiring in 1978. He also served as Baliff for Judge Barnet in the Delaware County courts. He and his wife lived in the Delaware County area for most of their lives and spent retirement in Cave City, Kentucky, before moving to Albany in 2008.
Lindal was an exceptional golfer who had a great passion for the game and shared that fervor with his friends and family. He was known for many stories and his great sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Darla S. Marsh; 2 sons: Leslie J. Marsh (wife: Jan), Muncie, and Lindal A. Marsh (wife: Teresa), McDonough, GA; 2 daughters: Lindalee Upton (husband: David), Muncie, and Jennifer Jo Murphy, Endicott, NY; a step-son: Richard A. St. John (wife: Brenda), Churubusco, IN; a brother: Hobart Marsh (wife: Linda), Muncie; a sister: Iris Meer (husband: Kenny), Muncie; also, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil & Verzannah Marsh; 5 brothers: Marvin, Cecil Eugene, Larry, Joe, and Gerald Marsh, and 3 sisters: Judy Shephard, Faye Croll, and Alice Gregory.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, with Lindal's nephew, Rev. Chris Carter, officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with military rites provided by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
